Writing better fiction—it’s a goal of every novelist.

Two major keys for writing better fiction are:

Write something that entertains.

Write clearly, so readers will understand, so they can be entertained.

Both of these keys focus their efforts ultimately on the reader. The reader must be entertained. The reader must understand what you’re trying to say.
